Representative Anthony Weiner’s Personal Ad

That's my Weiner

That's my Weiner

In today’s New York Times, Anthony Weiner, New York’s cutie liberal House Rep, writes an Op-Ed about why he’s decided not to run for mayor against the incumbent mayor and money-minting juggernaut that is Michael Bloomberg.

Weiner cites salient reasons not to run: there’s much that can be accomplished in Washington these days and given campaign financing laws and the 1976 Supreme Court decision in Buckley v. Valeo, in which the Court ruled

that candidates are allowed to spend as much as they want on their own races, there’s no way he can win against a gajillionaire. But my favorite reason comes at the end of this paragraph:

The personal choice for me is whether to run for mayor this year. I’ve taken stock of my life, my work in Washington and decided that now is not the right time to run. I believe I have a contribution to make in Congress fighting for New Yorkers. (I’d also like to build a family.)

Now I know that Weiner is no longer with the “body woman” to Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, so Weiner’s aside makes me wonder if the whole “maybe I’ll run for mayor” thing was really just the best ad for J-Date ever concocted. To that, I just have one thing to say, “Anthony, call me!”
